REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY

Remedial Massage involves the application of various techniques utilised to treat stress, strain, pain and tightness in the muscles in the body.  These issues can be caused from various origins, being injuries, stress strain and surgeries.  This can then make your body feel knotted up, inflamed, tight, sore, restricted in movement, leading to pain and discomfort. This then can result in mood swings, emotional stress, general lassitude, sleeplessness from pain and other issues.  As a remedial massage therapist, I will assess you by asking questions, to identify the areas of dysfunction and use a variety and range of massage techniques to re-establish correct muscle function.  These techniques are based on sports, deep tissue, trigger points myofascial release and stretches, using my hands, thumbs, forearms and elbows to achieve better function of your muscles.

SCIATICA

Do you have pain in your butt muscles that is there all the time or can be felt when you turn a certain way? Or you are having trouble getting in and out of the car because of intense pain in your legs and butt?  You could have sciatica.

CAUSES

Caused can be from pregnancy or childbirth or sporting injuries, accidents bering from falling over, trauma to the pelvis or lower back.  In severe cases, the gluteus muscles, piriformis muscles quadratus lumborum muscles, latisimus dorsi muscles, the quads, hamstrings can all be recruited because of the nerve entrapment, causing severe debilitating pain.  This condition stops you from being able to flex forward, turn the top half of your torso and lift your leg comfortably.

Nerve entrapment of the L4 and L5 discs, either from herniated or bulging disc or muscular spasm from the quadratus lumborum or iliopsoas muscle groups.  You may also have anterior or posterior facing pelvic misalignment.  This will then pull one of the legs up at the heel, which then puts strain on the opposing leg, adding to the pain and limited movement of the legs and back flexibility.

Massage techniques are used to release the piriformis muscles, gluteal muscles, working around the pelvic rim, crest and ischium, into the ham string muscles.  Then into the lumbar spine and releasing the tightness of the nerve pathways.  Then releasing the sacroiliac joints with trigger point therapy.  Supine position iliopsoas releases by using into the ilium fascial tissue and into the anterior part of the lumbar spine.

The special deep tissue massage techniques used will bring the blood flow back to the dehydrated and inflamed areas, and your painful back and hips will be relieved and the surrounding muscles will let go of the tension.

You can recover from chronic and acute injuries faster with massage treatment.

PELVIC MISALIGNMENT

Pelvic misalignment can be either felt as pain in the hips, legs, lumbar, inner or outer lower thigh areas, feet turned laterally or medially, and/or legs being different lengths.  Sacro iliac joint tightness could be a causation factor too. These issues can be easily rectified with remedial massage focussing on the whole area.

MIGRAINES

Causes of migraines are:-

  • Whiplash/injuries
  • Chemical poisoning
  • Eye injuries
  • Food allergies and environmental toxins
  • Pollutants
  • The blood vessels in the brain and skeletal area expand when there is reduced blood supply.  This expansion makes the surrounding nerves irritated and then the throbbing pain of the migraine is felt.
  • Blood flow is reduced when the blood vessels are under pressure.
  • Misaligned cervical vertebrae.
  • General muscle tightness and dehydration.

Migraines are debilitating and rob you of your life. They can be chronic and acute, as well as causing nausea, hearing sensitivity, visual disturbances, sensitivity to odours and fragrances.  Massage is beneficial to relieve the horrible, nasty pain in your neck and head as it increases the blood flow into the capillaries and rehydrates the surrounding dehydrated tissue.

FROZEN SHOULDER

Location:- The capsule of where the humerus bone adjoins the shoulder joint of the scapula and the surrounding tissue. This can be caused by an injury, broken arm, stroke, emotional, psychological or physical stress.  Frozen shoulder is when this area becomes stiff and inflamed limiting movement of the shoulders and arms. This issue results in recruiting surrounding muscles and tendons as follows:- trapezius, latissimus dorsi, serratus posterior, anterior and superior, pectoralis muscle group, supraspinatus muscle, sub scapularis muscle, terres muscle group, maybe even the sternocleidomastoid muscle, scalenes and other muscles eventually leading to 'frozen shoulder.'

Special release techniques and stretching designed to release and loosen your frozen shoulder/s.

A concentrated combination of massage, warmth, stretching are applied during a massage treatment therapy session. Massage warms the area and brings blood flow into the area and relieves tension and tightness. This helps to restore mobility and improves the function of the muscle groups.  It also helps improve blood flow to the affected area therefore reduces inflammation.

ARTHRITIS

Symptoms are:-

  • pain
  • stiffness
  • inflammation
  • calcification around the joints
  • limited or loss of range of motion of joints and they may become deformed.

The leg joints are the like hinges between your long bones and attaching to your pelvis and also the long bones in your arms attaching to the shoulders.

Arthritis can also occur in the joints of the hands and the feet.

This pain can be identified as either acute or chronic and is usually maintained by pain medication.  Massage is beneficial to relieve the acidic condition caused by Arthritis.  Rheumatoid Arthritis is a systemic autoimmune chronic disease.

Massage is definitely helpful for arthritis and rheumatism.  Massage techniques utilised stretch the tendons surrounding the joints and helps lubricates the cartilage with synovial fluid.
